A beautiful mother and child Nias Mask on stand from the region of Nias Indonesia, each mask is carved from high end Acacia wood. They are in beautiful condition, kept indoors and nothing to worry about. Circa 1985. More beautiful in real life. Stand included.

Description

Description

Nias Mask / Ono Niha tribe, which literally means ‘descendants of human’. The sculpture were not to be worn but made to make contact with the spirits of ancestors in family blessings.

In old Indonesians beliefs, such Indonesian Nias mask were homes for the spirits to dwell in. The mask is, therefore, a medium for ancestral spirits to reside in the physical world as it represents the divine beings or energies in a physical form.

Smaller mask(Height x Width):  20 x 9.5 cm / 7.9 x 3.7 inches

Bigger mask(Height x Width): 27 x 27 cm / 10.6 x 10.6 inches
